Integrated report: Transparent about more than sustainability

jaarverslagAnnually we published a report on our sustainability performance. This year we publish for the first time an integrated report, in which we explain our main strategic business activities. The reason for this new approach is that we want to present our integrated business strategy and want to show how we create value for different stakeholders. We describe both our financial, economic and social and environmental goals and performances. In the report we show what roles we fulfil as a company for our different stakeholders and the context in which we operate. Therefore we pay in addition to our own activities also attention to social developments and we describe the dilemmas we have had over the past year. Read the integrated report on www.vodafone.nl/jaarverslag2012-2013. If you have questions, remarks or feedback on our annual report, please contact floor.klein@vodafone.com.

Vodafone Inruildeals: your used phone is worth money

Vodafone InruildealsSince may, Vodafone launched the Inruildeals. We see the Inruildeals as a first step towards a circular economy because customers can hand in their used phone. The phone is then recycled or reused in for example Africa or Asia. Customers will receive an amount of money which they can keep themselves or donate to a good cause. If a phone has no value, the various components are recycled. This may be the case with phones that are too old or broken. With our partner Brightstar the phone will for instance be examined, and all data is removed from the phone. With the Vodafone Inruildeals we want to make consumers aware that used phones have value for both customer's wallet and the company.

Mobiles for Good: 2nd edition for innovation in healthcare

Mobiles for GoodThe second edition of the Mobiles for Good Challenge is launched! The Mobiles for Good Challenge is an initiative of the Vodafone Foundation in collaboration with Waag Society to enable new mHealth applications. This Challenge is open to all forms of mobile applications. For example, apps for your mobile phone, text messaging services, machine2machine applications and hardware. It concerns mobile applications that are designed for use in The Netherlands or developing countries. People can submit until September 6th 2013. The winner receives a cash prize of € 40,000 to develop the idea. On September 26th we will announce the three winners during the final on the Emerce eHealth Conference at Pakhuis de Zwijger in Amsterdam.   Green energy: Vodafone customers call on wind energy

WindenergieVodafone Netherlands switches for 100 per cent to wind energy. Following a study of Greenpeace Vodafone has switched hydroelectric energy from Scandinavia for a more sustainable variant. It concerns the wind farms Irene Vorrink (Flevoland), the Bjirmen (Friesland) and the Maasvlakte (South Holland). This energy variant is, unlike hydroelectric energy, produced in Netherlands and is fully CO2-neutral. This step from hydroelectric energy to wind energy offers a substantial contribution to the targets that Vodafone has set for herself: 50 per cent less CO2-emmission in 2020 compared to 2007. The purchase of green electricity is only part of a total approach to CO2 reduction. Sanne van Keulen, spokeswoman at Greenpeace: "It is good to see that Vodafone is putting words in to actions and chooses for green energy for wind farms. This proves that there are companies who will put their efforts into making the energy supply in The Netherlands more sustainable".
